Division of Psychotherapy Fireside Chat: Taming your Critic: Emotion Focused Therapy Working with Self-Criticism

Thursday 11 June from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.; Online: Zoom

This Fireside Chat will focus on therapeutic work with inner critic.
Self-critical processes are present in many mental health difficulties and can interfere with recovery. Depression, personality disorder, eating disorders, addictions have commonly experienced negative self-evaluations. Many approaches deal with negative thinking, however chronic and long-standing critical processes can be resistant to change using cognitive approaches. Experiential approaches work directly with these processes and may lead to an internal shift in experience.
One approach to managing inner criticism in chronic presentations will be presented: emotion focused therapy.
The facilitator, Dr. Katarina Timulakova, is a certified emotion focused therapist, with extensive experience in mental health services.
The topics covered are:
1. Intro to Emotion focused therapy
2. Introduce work with critic - two chair dialogue.
Participants will have the opportunity to consider how the presented topics can be applied to their daily practice.
